ALLERGIES
Seasonal allergies can be a real pain. What should you do?
You could take over-the-counter medications to relieve symptoms, but they may not provide the relief you need for allergies. If your allergies are bothering you and causing sinus symptoms, it’s time to see your doctor about getting allergy treatment at Red Rock Family Clinic in Las Vegas!
Why do so many people suffer from allergies in Nevada?
Pollen from both native and non-native plants can cause misery to allergy sufferers. The enemy of a pollen allergy is the spring since that is when pollen is most dispersed in the air. Mulberry, European olive, ash, pine, oak, elm, and maple are among the trees that have the greatest impact on Las Vegas. Non-natives, especially fruitless mulberries, are a major nuisance that must be dealt with. In Clark County in 1991, they were banned because of the trouble they caused. They’re still found in older neighborhoods, but due to their high pollen levels, they can no longer be planted.
Seasonal allergies usually go away in the fall due to triple-digit summer temperatures. Weed spores emerge as soon as the heat dies down, spoiling outdoor activities in September and October. Ragweed is the worst offender because it produces more particles than other plants that cause sneezing. Sagebrush is a member of the Asteraceae family. It can grow up to six feet tall and produces a ton of potent pollen. Sagebrush’s high amount of light pollen in the fall affects allergy sufferers in southern Nevada, exacerbating their symptoms. Mold also thrives at this time due to our dry climate, and it may cause seasonal allergies.
Treatment for Allergies
Getting treatment can be complicated. First, visit your primary care provider at Red Rock Family Clinic who may prescribe medications like antihistamines to curb your symptoms. If they are ineffective, or if your allergies are long-lasting enough that you find yourself popping pills for longer than you want to, we may consider referring you to an allergist for testing.
Symptoms of allergies include sneezing, runny nose, congestion, and more. If your allergies are bothering your sinuses enough for them to cause sinus symptoms, it’s time to schedule an allergy treatment appointment with our doctors at Red Rock Family Clinic
